Page 1 of 2 The National park of Bouhedma The park covering a surface of 16.488 ha and comprising three protection zones integral, fact part of the chain of Orbata-Bou-hedma of the Eastern Southern Saharian Atlas and, belonged to the landscape of the subtropical steppes with Acacia. The culminating point of the jebel Bou-Hedma reaches 840 meters.
Created by decree n° 80-1606 of December 18th, 1980, he had already been recognized of international importance in 1977, during his designation like holds Biosphere by UNESCO. The site also forms part of network ROSELT of the observatory of the Sahara and the Sahel since 1995. Raising at the same time of the Governorships of Sidi Bouzid and Gafsa, it is to 85 km in the East of Gafsa, to 100 km of the town of Maknassy, more exactly to 25 km in the South-west of Mezzouna and, to 45 km in hot line of the Mediterranean coast in the West. Nearly 485 species were listed in the park, which is characterized by
the presence of the gommier, Accacia raddiana, Accacia Tortillis, also
said the Pine parrasol. It is interesting to note that in 1853, the
forest of acacia raddiana had been indicated as a vestige of an old
savanna présaharienne.
