Demographic Evolution The Tunisian population increased from 3.8 million in 1956 to 8.8 million in 1994, 9.4 million in 1999, to 10.1 in 2006. Thanks to an avant-garde family planning policy, Tunisia has been able to reduce the natural growth rate. This rate, which was in the order of 2.58% in 1994, was reduced to 1.14% in 1999.
